Chapter 12

I woke up in the hospital and was informed that I was out cold for two days straight. The doctors didn’t know what was wrong with me. They ran test and everything seemed to be fine. I had a roommate who would cry and scream all night. She would piss and shit on herself and I would have to smell it. Her family came to visit her and they slid the curtain over so they could talk privately with her. They informed her that the church members sent her $500. They left the

money in her closet.

The next day, she was sound asleep from the anesthesia the doctors gave her. I snuck out of my bed, opened her closet and searched for the money. Shirt pocket, no. Pants, no. White envelope, bingo! Five hundred twenty-five dollars were in the envelope. I scurried to put my clothes on and exited the hospital. I felt no remorse.

I walked and walked until I found a “trap.” I purchased crack, handlebars, X, drink, and whatever I could get. I was going to feel so good tonight. This was what I needed to take the edge off. It took the edge off and it felt sooo good. I had something to love and it loved me back. Life couldn’t get better, until the $525 went dry. I was back to looking bad and pouring down jobs to men for drugs.

Zorra said she did the same things and here I was; sucking dick for a baby spoon of rock.

“Come here hoe!” a stranger demanded.

“What you want baby?” I asked seductively.

“Shit, I want the combo,” he laughed.

“What’s that?”

“I want some head and pussy.”

“Okay, you know my fee right?” I asked.

“Hell naw,” he stated. “I know my fee, though. If you give me the combo, I will give you some blow.”

“Don’t worry your pretty little head about that,” he stated, pulling me by my hand and leading me to a crack and pissy infested alley.

Giving strange men head and sex become very easy for me. I was getting so messed up, I would hallucinate. I dreamed of the life I wanted as a little girl. I dreamed about my mother, father, and my brothers. I was a sick sight to be around. My bones were sticking through my skin and my body was desecrating by the minute. I would wake up in alleys and not know where I was. Rats would bite me and I wouldn’t even wake up. I was beyond strung out. I tried to come up with a strategy for revenge on Teddy and Reggie. My mind was so messed up that I forgot about them.

“Hey, who that over there?” a familiar voice asked another person as they both stepped towards me.

“Wake up hoe!” Teddy yelled. “Where you been? I heard you were out.”

“Leave me alone, you crazy muthafucka!” I yelled.

“You look sloppy as hell, but you are still beautiful!”
